The Randolph Arts Guild Sara Smith Self Gallery is proud to present  Sam Rankin

Sam Rankin, is a native of Randolph County who grew up in Ramseur and married Missy Moser of Asheboro. They have three married children and five grandchildren, all living in North Carolina. After graduating from college and spending two years at Fort Sill, Oklahoma as an Army Officer/Artillery, Sam returned to Ramseur to work in his family’s textile business.

Since childhood Sam has enjoyed taking things apart and putting them back together, hoping there are not any parts missing. He took up welding after completing a course at Randolph Community College. He uses new and found objects to artfully create useful items for home and garden. He likes to say that his trade name is “BUILDSGATES”.

Wes Rankin, an Asheboro native, who in his “early years” took several art classes offered by the Randolph Arts Guild. He now resides in Greensboro with his wife Pri and two energetic sons, Oliver (5) and Andrew (2). Now Wes enjoys spare time in his wood shop, weekends in the NC mountains, and projects with his father, Sam. He likes to incorporate reclaimed hardware and materials, much of it salvaged from Greensboro-area homes through his volunteer work with Architectural Salvage of Greensboro. A majority of the wood he uses is recycled from storm-damaged trees felled at or near his home or his parent’s home outside Asheboro. Wes credits his father’s curiosity and work ethic and his maternal grandfather, Wescott Moser’s do-it-yourself spirit, for sparking his interest in woodworking.
