Watercolor Batik with Debra Spinks Saturday

February 10th from 12noon- 4:00 pm, Ages 16+ $50 (members) / $55 (nonmember)

Batik is a process of using a resist and pigment to dye fabric. This class will employ a similar technique using wax and watercolor on rice paper to create beautiful batik-style paintings. The class is suitable for both beginners and experienced painters ages 16 & up. All materials will be provided. The class will be taught by Debra Spinks, a local artist whose work includes original paintings in watercolors, oils, and acrylics. Enrollment deadline is February 3.



Acrylic Pour with Debra Spinks Saturday, January 27th form 10 am – 12 noon, Ages 14 + $35 for members, $40 for non-members


Learn a fun technique to create amazing abstract paintings using a fluid mix of acrylics and pouring medium. The class is suitable for both beginners and experienced painters ages 14 & up. All materials will be provided. Please bring an apron or wear old clothes. Paintings will need a day or two to dry and will be available to pick up the Monday after the class. The class will be taught by Debra Spinks, a local artist whose work includes original paintings in watercolors, oils, and acrylics. Enrollment deadline is January 20.


It’s All in the Details Drawing Class with Cara Bevan/ Ages 14 + /Tuesday, February 20th form 10am – 4pm

Cost is $30 for members and $35 for non-members

What makes a drawing stand out? The details. What makes the details? Texture! In this class, we’ll
be exploring the textures that can make a drawing look real. Speckling for stone and brick, tree bark,
grass, soft blending for clouds, heavy shading for trees – and more! We’ll be looking at projector
images as reference and draw several different scenes. All drawings will be done in pencil/graphite. Maximum 12 students. $30 members/$35 nonmembers. Enrollment deadline is February 13.



Mystery of the Mandala with Jacquie Reininger/ Ages 13+ / Saturday, January 20th from 10 am – noon / Cost is $40 members, $45 nonmembers  / Ages 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Throughout time, the Mandala has been revered as a spiritual meditative centering tool. Learn about it’s history, adaptations and geometry while creating one of your own! Jacquie from Santosha Yoga will be guiding you in designing and painting your own unique Mandala on a round canvas, which will be suitable for hanging or gift giving. The experience itself becomes a meditation, illustrating its value first-hand. All supplies included. Enrollment deadline January 13.


Alcohol Ink with Cara Bevan / Ages 18 + /Saturday, February 10th from 12 pm-4pm. Cost is $45 members and $50 nonmembers

Alcohol Ink is a medium unlike any other – it makes bold patterns and strong colors that is unpredictable and will always surprise you! Join Cara in coloring a variety of projects using these amazing inks. We will color a ceramic cup to hold our art supplies, paper that can be
framed, a dragon egg, and a few surprise things to take home. It’s going to be fun, and a bit messy! Maximum 12 students. . Enrollment deadline is February 1.

Studies in Perspective with Marcus Lawson Saturday, February 17th 11 am-1 pm,
Ages 14+ $35 members, $40 non-members

Marcus Lawson is bringing back his studies in perspective class to the RAG! Marcus runs this like a workshop. We try various types of one and two point perspective methods. You will leave with more knowledge of the perspective process to apply to your everyday drawing and painting needs. Enrollment deadline is February 9.

“Mandala Zen Garden Rocks” / Ages 15+

This class has been postponed, but if you are still interested, please call us for your contact information so we can update you on when it will be offered again. This is not just “rock painting”, it’s a fun stippling class that makes rock magical! Thank you for understanding and working with us!

Come chill, relax, breathe deep and RENEW while we create! Rock therapy is not only relaxing, but also satisfying. We will learn where this art originated from and how to create our own mandala for our gardens, homes and stone markers. We will offer a tea sampling the night of Zen Rocks, from Carriage House Tea, to sip while you relax and paint! All materials will be provided, but if you have a smooth rock that is 4 – 6 inches wide you are more than welcome to bring that. Cost of class is $35 for members or $40 for non-members. Registration deadline is Monday February 12th.

Janice is the former President and Executive Director of LinkAbility a Non-Profit Organization located in Durham, NC. Mrs.Brahms-Butler created programming for Students and Senior Citizens in the Community and it was through Social Action, building inter-generational connections that created a cultural paradigm. The programs focused on recycle, reuse, reduce- Janice made it a fun, awakening, artistic, service journey for all. (Funding provided in part by Mayor Bill Bell). While she has service at her core, she is also an artist. She has taught art at CC Spaulding Elementary School for one year, the school did not have funding for supplies,  so she created a Recycled Supplies Art Program. This year she moved to Asheboro. She and her husband wanted to focus on homesteading and their arts. Janice works in many mediums from glass fusion, mosaics, jewelry, fiber art, painting, recycling and crating all the way, every day. She has had art juried by the Nasher Museum in Durham. She lives on the homestead with her husband nate and their two labradoodles.
