Drawing Sessions/ Ages 18 & Up
We continue the popular Drawing Sessions -- local artists meet each first and third Thursday of the month from 6pm -- 8pm to render from clothed models. It's a casual, supportive environment sure to inspire you to brush up on your drawing skills. The second quarter sessions are available for the low price of $30. Or feel free to attend the sessions individually at $10 per session. Bring your own materials and a music CD to draw by, if you like.
Journals from Bits and Pieces with Barbara Tazewell/ Ages 14 & Up
We have a real treat for you -- local artist, Barbara Tazewell is offering a journal making class. The multi-talented Tazewell creates charming journals the “old fashioned way” -- sewn by hand with linen thread and fabric. This is more than a class -- it will be a wonderful artful experience! Students may bring there own “bits and pieces” (buttons, fabric, ribbons, beads, etc.) to be woven into these hand made journals. The class meets on Mondays (six weeks), 6p -- 8p, April 16, 23, 30, May 7, 14, & 21. Registration & payment deadline: Monday, April 2. $65.
Practically Singing with Julie Auler/ Ages 16 to Adult
It’s a proper vocal class with loads of fun for anyone! Julie Auler (see “Learning about the Musical Note Lecture”) loves to teach music and is passionate about helping others discover their voice. Proper methodology on posture, breathing, and vowels are all included. Each student will study two classical songs to learn for the course. Please wear comfortable clothes. Class meets on Mondays (six weeks) from 6p -- 7:30p June 4, 11, 18, 25, July 9, 16. Registration & payment deadline: Monday, May 28. $75.
Taking Notes w/ Julie Auler/ Ages 7 -- 11
This class is perfect for the youngsters who like to be physically active as they learn about music! Join the versatile Julie Auler (see “Learning about the Musical Note Lecture”) as she teaches basic piano & music theory skills, pitch & tone, music history, and interactive music. Active singing games are in the mix too! The class meets Mondays (six weeks), 4p -- 5:30p, June 4, 11, 18, 25, July 9, 16. Registration & payment deadline: Monday, May 28. $75.
Wood Block Relief Printmaking with John D. Gall/ Ages 14 & Up
Experienced printmaker John D. Gall leads a basic class in wood block printmaking designed for the experienced, beginner, and everyone in between. Each student will create/carve a block and print their own creation. All aspects of this form of printmaking will be covered from making a jig that holds the print block, to making a small edition of your prints. The course fee includes each student being able to take home the printing jig and carving tools to make additional woodcuts. Two intensive Saturdays: June 2 and June 9 from 10:30a -- 3p. Bring a lunch. Most materials are provided -- be thinking of an image/design you'd like to work with and bring a wooden spoon (used to print the block). Beginning Piano, 1st quarter 2012 w/ Margaret McKinnon/ Ages 16 & Up
Says one of the happy piano students “Margaret is so encouraging. She motivates you to learn & play. You also get to meet and get to know other people with similar interests. It’s great creative camaraderie.” The class meets Wednesdays from January 25 -- April 18, from 10am -- noon (12 weeks). Students are to purchase their own instructional music books. Kindermusik Family Time w/ Margaret McKinnon/ 6 mos. to 3 yrs.
In “Make Way for Music,” families will sing, dance, and move their way through an exploration of several elements of music including beat and rhythm, the human voice, and instrument families. They’ll engage in developmentally appropriate activities that the whole family can enjoy together, including fingerplays, songs, circle dances, story time, and family jam. The class is for ages 6 months to 3 years with at least one parent. Parents and family members are welcom to attend at no additional charge. The class meets on Mondays for 10 weeks, from January 23 -- March 26, at 6pm. Registration & payment deadline: Wednesday January 10, 2012. $175.

Clay Vessel Carving w/ Molly Lithgo/ Ages High School & Up
This is drawing in 3-dimensions without knowing how to draw! Participants will learn how to transfer ideas to a 3-dimensional clay surface and explore carving tools and techniques. One clay vessel and tools supplied. No experience needed. Just bring your enthusiasm! Appropriate for all levels. Each participant will carve a clay vessel that will be glazed for later pick-up. This class meets on Sat. Feb 4, 2012, 10:30a - 5:30p. Bring your own lunch. $70. Pre-registration and payment are due by January 26th.

Image Transfer w/ Denee’ Black/ Ages 16 & Up
Straight from Raleigh, NC award winning visual artist and mixed media print-maker, Denee’ Black will teach you about image transfer. It’s a cool way to make prints of your favorite imagery with acrylic mediums and print outs from the photocopier, laser printer or even magazines. It’s low tech & low-fi but with big results and lots of fun! All materials included. Sat. March 24, 10:30a -- 3:30p. Bring your own lunch. $30. Color Theory w/ Judy Meyler Ages 18 & Up
Ready to improve your ability to mix and use color? It’s a basic element to the creative process -- we can all use a brush up! Join award winning Greensboro artist Judy Meyler for this hands on course in color theory. The session includes an interactive demo/lecture covering all the bases of color. You’ll also have an opportunity to work on your own project utilizing what you’ve just learned with additional input from Judy. Bring your own oil paints (please call for a list of colors), supports, brushes, etc. and a lunch. $45. This class meets on Saturday, March 10, 10:30am -- 4pm. People, Places and Things: Intro to Painting w/ Rodney Bennett/ Ages 5 -- 7
The dynamic Rodney Bennett creates a fabulous introduction to painting. Students will explore landscapes, sea scapes, still life, people, and animals. This class meets on Thursdays from 4p -- 5p. Materials provided. $60 for 4 classes per month. Pre-registration and payment are due by the last Thursday of the month before each month’s first class. (Ex: register by August 25 to attend September’s classes.)
Home School Elementary Art with Brooke Sides/ Ages 7 -11
Mrs. Sides continues with all sorts of new creative projects that focus on the NC Standards of Art for Elementary School. What does that mean? -- more fun in the classroom as the students explore the world of visual art! Join her in making recycled art, studying famous artists, and 2 and 3-dimensional creations. The class meets the first and second Thursday of each month from 3pm -- 5pm beginning Sept 1. $30 for 2 classes. Pre-registration and payment are due by the Thursday before each month’s first class. (Ex: pay August 25 for September classes.)
People, Places and Things: Intro to Drawing w/ Rodney Bennett/ Ages 8 -- 11
Learn how to draw with 1, 2, & 3 point perspectives, light & shadow, people, animals, and still life with the ever supportive Rodney Bennett aka Mr. “B.” The class meets on Tuesdays, from 4p -- 5:30p. Christmas Class Piano w/ Margaret McKinnon/ Ages 16 & up
Join local favorite, Margaret McKinnon as she leads the ever-popular group piano class. We only have six pianos. This class fills up quick. Why? -- because everyone enjoys the supportive group environment. You also get one-on-one instruction with Mrs. McKinnon during each class. What’s there not to enjoy? Pre-registration and payment due by Monday, October 31. Class meets 7p -- 9p on Mondays: Nov. 7,14,28, & Dec. 5 (four weeks). Students may bring holiday music books of their choice. $60.
Drawing Sessions/ Ages 18 & up
Beginning in October, Drawing Sessions will still offer a great opportunity for you to hone your rendering skills in a supportive yet self-guided atmosphere. The change is sessions are $10 per night, or $25 for ALL the remaining (5) fourth quarter sessions of the 2011. The sessions continue to meet the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month. Drawing Sessions include opportunities to work from live models as well as still life and whatever else we decide to draw upon.

These Greeting Cards are gifts in themselves, complete with bow! Ruffle, wrinkle, roll and pleat til your heart’s content with ribbon and lace to create extraordinary Christmas cards for your special friends and family. Learn how to frame a sentiment, roll a rose and tie the perfect bow to ensure these greetings become keepsakes! Your teacher jacquie Reininger has been crafting with paper for 20 years and will inspire you to create these heirlooms with ease! The class meets on Saturday, Nov. 12 from 12 noon -- 3pm. Bring your own lunch. All materials and tools are provided. $30. Pre-registration and payment due by Nov. 1.
